- : I've installed a new 28.8 MVP288IV internal fax/voice mail modem on my
- : WIN 95 system. With both Hyperterminal and TRUMPET I have this problem
- : when trying to call the Sportsters (V.34) on my office modem bank.
- : Most of the time (95%) I get a 21600 baud connection with NO LAPM-M or
- : compression, which produces a stream of garbage to either application.
- : I've played with about 50 variations on set-up strings, all with the
- : same results. If I try again and again, at some point I'll get
- : PROTOCOL: LAP-M and all is fine. Any suggestions? Could there be something
- : odd on the Sportsters that cause this behavior? E-mail to Cardinal
- : tech support seems to be a black hole......all advice is welcome..e-mail
- : if you've actually solved this problem!

- You should be happy in fact. In my case I have the same modem and model
- and I cannot get my modem to recognize that USR answered the call. It
- always assumes(especially with Win95 Dialup) that there was no answer and
- redials the USR line. If I use a different terminal program I
- occasionally get connection but not higher than 21.6 plus it works slower
- than a 14.4 and usually with grabage characters and overruns.
-
- I would also be happy if someone can really give and idea on what is
- happening. Thanks a lot.
